Allison Adams Wieczorek Scholarship
Support for Maternal–Infant and Pediatric Nursing Graduate Studies
Allison Adams Wieczorek has served on the Nurses Educational Funds (NEF) Board since 2006, and she is deeply committed to advancing graduate nursing education, with a particular focus on maternal-infant and pediatric care. Although not a nurse by profession, her dedication to this field has been shaped by personal experiences with maternal and pediatric care, as well as by her work with NEF scholars whose education and research address critical needs in healthcare. She has played an active leadership role within NEF, serving as Co-Chair of the Communications Committee and formerly as Chair of the Website and Social Media Committee, helping to expand the organization’s outreach and impact.
With more than 25 years of experience in finance, marketing, and content strategy, Allison currently serves as Publisher of the Financial Analysts Journal and Head of Content Asset Strategy at CFA Institute. She brings this expertise to NEF to help strengthen its mission and broaden awareness of the importance of supporting advanced nursing education.
Building on the successful fundraising of her mother-in-law, Dr. Rita Reis Wieczorek’s Maternal-Infant and Pediatric Nursing Scholarship, Allison and Rita established the Allison Adams Wieczorek Scholarship for Maternal–Infant and Pediatric Nursing. The Allison Adams Wieczorek Scholarship reached its $50,000 endowment goal in 2023 and supports graduate nurses pursuing advanced study in maternal-infant and pediatric nursing, continuing a shared commitment to nursing service, education, and leadership.
Allison Adams Wieczorek Scholarship Recipients
Four graduate nursing students have received this scholarship since its inception in 2023:
Hannah Kumarasamy, PhD(c), CNM, WHNP-BC, MPH
- Has spent over 15 years addressing maternal health outcomes through clinical and public health programming
- Pursued research-oriented doctoral training at a renowned research institution in the Deep South, which is disproportionately and inequitably impacted by both maternal morbidity and mortality
- Developing a validated pregnancy burden definition and model, paving the way for the creation of tools for clinical and research measurement.
Kathleen "Katie" Page, CNM, MSN, FACNM
- Practiced full-scope midwifery, providing primary sexual, reproductive, perinatal, and newborn care to a diverse population from puberty to menopause in rural and urban settings
- Led quality improvement efforts to reduce cesarean births, fostered collaborative relationships among midwives and physicians, and worked to improve hospital-home birth transfers
- Served on her state professional association’s legislative committee, leading policy victories for full practice authority and improved reimbursement and hospital privileges for midwives in 2021 and 2025
Kelsey Baffour-Addo, MPH, MSN, RN
- Focused on addressing women's health outcomes through multiple thesis projects, including research on postpartum mood disorders and strategies to reduce maternal mortality disparities in the United States
- In the Centers for Disease Control’s Public Health Law Program, explored the intersection of women's health law, policy, and public health outcomes, resulting in a mini course outline and a co-author role in a journal publication
- Worked as a nurse in the postpartum unit, delivering safe and compassionate care to mothers and newborns
Bethany Golden, PhD, CNM, RN
- Worked as a clinician, novice researcher, and lecturer in clinics, hospitals, universities, and villages in New York City, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Fiji, and Nicaragua for over 20 years
- Co-developed three reproductive health bills in California, to ensure malpractice insurance for those who provide abortion and gender affirming therapy; and increase legal protections for providers who provide abortion elsewhere or via telehealth
- Co-founded ICAS/Juntos Adelante, a not-for-profit that focuses on health and human rights in Nicaragua
These NEF scholarship recipients are already nurse leaders who are actively using their education, practice, and research to change outcomes for mothers, children, and families across the United States.
